WORLD HEART MEMORIAL DAY FROM AMSA UKI

As the heart is one of the most important organ in human body, AMSA-UKI (an organization which was only develop in UKI this September) is doing its first activity: World Heart Memorial Day. World Heart Memorial Day (WHMD) in on September 28^th but we choose to celebrate it on September 26^th because it is close to Idul Fitri.

The purpose of this activity which was on Friday is to make the public realize that they should take care of the heart. Other than that, this activity is to introduce AMSA chapter UKI which has just been develop. World Heart Memorial Day by AMSA-UKI was situated on medical faculty area, medical faculty of Christian university’s hospital, and the area around it. AMSA-UKI member which consists of approximately 90 members did various activities, such as:

small performance (oration & singing)

To attract the attention around there we start by singing popular songs which lyric we change to fit our theme. And we continued with a small oration that will increase public awareness of the heart disease risks.

the giving of pamphlets

The pamphlet contains facts about why we need to take care our heart by not smoking, reduce eating fast food, leading healthy life style, etc.

blood pressure free measurement

This measurement was aimed not only for UKI campus member but also for the people who live in the area next to UKI, such as: hospital visitors, public transportation drivers, canteen seller, etc. other than that we also facilitate question and answer session about how to take care of our heart. In this stand there are also various mascots dress in colorful costumes who provide answer to each of the people question.

This activity is special for medical students in UKI. Some of the AMSA-UKI members enter the classes which haven’t started their study yet. The questions were about the cardiovascular system. In order to attract the students attention we provide gifts for the winner.

the closing of this activity it to collect autograph of people who are willing to take care of their hearts.

All the activities above were done from 7.30 am – 2.00 pm. This World Heart Memorial Day got positive reviews from the people who took part in this activity. We hope that the activity we have done will not only be a “memorial” of how taking care of the hearts is important but also we hope that this activity will raise the awareness of them.
